I realize that I’m preaching to the choir on Tumblr, but I find it insane that seeing people get tortured to their death on film, a common occurrence is any horror movie, doesn’t bat an eyelash from the public or a single fine from the FCC.
Blood spill, murder, impalement - I can find a station broadcasting something like this any day, at just about any time of the day.
But the second this happens:
People lose their shit.
It should be said that I don’t find anything wrong with violence on film or television. It has its place.
I just find it strange that the general public can watch murder, rape, and torture and be completely fine with it, but feature a sex scene in a movie and if it starts to become a little too apparent that the woman is enjoying it, the line between art and pornography blur to a ridiculous level and we’re left with watered down products that don’t click with the way the writer or directed intended it to be.
Blame rape culture, blame religion, blame conservative politics - which seem to embrace both - the truth is probably a combination of those things.

Surely there’s something to be said about the absurdity of this notion. We’re not all violent, but almost all of us are sexual. Why are we so ashamed of something we are biologically geared to do?
